See attached image.
We often make plots like these in presentations, where we show selected structures in a plot.
A very powerful yet quick way of highlighting key information.

Unfortunately, the colouring of the selected data points is set by the selection, and the standard colouring of that plot/window is overruled. That is often a pity, as part of the information one wanted to convey with those selected points is in fact encoded in the colouring.

Maybe an alternative of highlighting the selected points could be a thickening of the outline only? So that the colouring inside remains intact?

If you put the selected rows into focus (wrench menu->Set Focus To Row List...Wink, then all selected rows are shown in their natural color, while all non selected rows are more grayish:
